Assignment

I was so taken with the process of creating my blog and putting something out there, that I forgot to do the assignment. What are the easiest and hardest things for me in the list of 7 1/2 Habits???

Easiest is Habit 7 1/2 "Play" I find that the topics and activities that truly engage me are like play. It's a kid with a toy or an artist with a brush. All about exploration and "what if?" stuff. And time falls away. It uses a part of my mind that I enjoy.

I'd say the hardest for me is Habit 6; "Use technology to your advantage." My challenge is that I focus so much on learning the technology that I have trouble getting to that exploration and imagining (and PLAY) that gets me to the "Aha! I can use this to help me __________." There has to be a comfort level before I get there. Maybe the learning about the technology employs the part of my brain that isn't playing. So I feel like I'm switching back and forth. Left hand, right hand, left brain, right brain. I'm working on the transition.

I want to be the kind of person (and employee) who knows all the tools and how best to use them. I feel like I'm far behind many of you. I have great sympathy for our library customers who have to expose their vulnerabilities when they ask a question. The ones who see us as knowing - or knowing how to find - what they don't know.

I value and appreciate those staff members who are willing and able to help me along. Thanks. You know who you are.

Tough weekend

High school reunion. Big number!!! Looked like a mass escape from a nursing home. Should these people be out at night? Is someone driving them? We are past our prime and no one told us.

Come to work Monday and "make a blog." The good news is that no one from the reunion will read it.
